Can I Drink Matcha Before Bed?

Matcha contains caffeine.

Caffeine is the main reason why people advise not to drink coffee before bed.

The high levels of caffeine in coffee can keep you up at night and mess with your sleep patterns.

Matcha, on the other hand, has only half the caffeine of coffee, and contains a special amino acid called L-theanine.

Several human clinical trials have shown that L-theanine promotes relaxation by increasing alpha brain waves and decreasing beta brain waves.

Alpha brain waves are present during deep relaxation, and beta brain waves are present when you are in a state of excitement.

The presence of L-theanine in matcha also has synergy with the caffeine, as the two work together to promote a state of relaxed alertness, rather than one of over-excitement.

Don't have time for matcha during the day? Enjoy it at night.
